A former athlete who has accused Alan Jones of repeatedly indecently assaulting him admits he told his mother that the veteran broadcaster did not touch him, but says he was lying to her.

Mr Jones, 85, is facing trial in the Downing Centre Local Court having pleaded not guilty to 20 counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual touching relating to six complainants.

He has been accused of touching the penis and buttocks and kissing the complainants during alleged incidents between 2003 and 2020.

He has strenuously and repeatedly denied the allegations.

The first witness in the trial, a man who can only be known as “Complainant J”, has alleged that Mr Jones touched him on the penis in Mr Jones’ car and at his Fitzroy Falls farm and kissed him without his consent on four occasions.

J, a once-promising athlete, gave evidence for more than four days last week and is being re-examined by Crown Prosecutor Georgina Wright.

Following his evidence, the Crown is expected to call several witnesses which relate to J’s allegations.

‘Lied’

Allegations against Mr Jones first emerged in the media in late 2023 – approximately a year before he was arrested.

The court has been told that J came forward to Day Street Police Station after he saw the news of Mr Jones’ arrest in late 2024.

J on Friday told the court that in 2023, his mother asked him if Jones had ever touched him and he denied that he did.

“You said words to the effect that Alan Jones never touched you,” Mr Jones’ barrister Gabrielle Bashir SC asked.

“Yes,” J replied.

Ms Bashir later asked: “You were not lying to her in 2023 when you said nothing happened were you?”

“Yes, I lied to her then,” J said.

He said he spoke to her again in 2024 when he says he told her the truth.

“Alan Jones never kissed you indecently,” Ms Bashir said.

“Yes he did,” J replied.

“Alan Jones never indecently touched you,” Ms Bashir said.

“Yes he did,” J said.

Week two

The court was told on Monday – during a brief mention of the matter – that following the block of evidence relating to “Complainant J”, the court will hear from “Complainant C”.

The court was previously told that C is a man who had worked alongside Jones.

He has alleged that Mr Jones touched him on the leg and penis as he drove him from the 2GB studios at Pyrmont and to the shock jock’s Circular Quay apartment building.

It is further alleged that Mr Jones kissed the man after cornering him in the lifts at his home and work.

Mr Jones has been charged with eight counts of indecent assault which relate to Complainant C.

About 20 witnesses are expected to be called by the Crown in relation to C’s allegations, the court was told on Monday.
