The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) revaluation portal’s payment system was hit by a “malicious attack”, with around 50 students gaining unauthorised access. The issue led to abnormal fee displays on the portal, with the payable amount in some cases fluctuating from as little as Re 1 to nearly Rs 67,000-68,000.
“I think out of fun or out of mala fide intention, I think that one rupee was shown and then Rs 67-68,000. So, there were about 50 children whose cases the amount had changed,”the source told PTI.

The glitch was linked to the HDFC payment gateway integrated into the system and occurred when the portal went live. Four public sector banks, State Bank of India, Canara Bank, Indian Bank, and Bank of Maharashtra, have also been integrated as additional payment gateways.
Experts from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur), along with the Digital Infrastructure Corporation of India, are examining the system and working to strengthen the portal’s payment gateway integration.
“I think the portal for quite some time was not functional. There were issues with respect to the amount, where 50 children who came in, and they manipulated the system,” the source told PTI.
On May 24, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held discussions with Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman regarding the payment and technical issues recently faced by students during the CBSE post-result and revaluation processes.
During the discussion, it was decided that the four public sector banks mentioned earlier would assist CBSE in strengthening its payment gateway infrastructure and integrating it with the post-examination portal, the Education Ministry said.
CBSE CLASS 12 RE-EVALUATION DATE
CBSE, on May 29, announced a change in its post-result schedule for Class 12 students seeking verification and re-evaluation of their answer books. The Board said the designated portal for submitting applications will now become operational on June 1, 2026.
According to the press statement, the decision was taken to ensure a transparent and glitch-free process for students using the Post-Result Activities portal.
Students planning to apply for verification or re-evaluation will be able to access the portal from June 1, 2026. Once operational, the portal will allow them to submit their requests through the official Post-Result Activities platform.
On May 28, the Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the controversy, saying he takes responsibility, and assuring students and parents that “no one will be spared” if irregularities are found in the evaluation process.
“I take responsibility. It will be fixed, a solution will be found. We are all working on that task,” he said.
The minister’s remarks come after days of complaints from students over blurred scanned copies, alleged unchecked answers, portal crashes, payment issues, and confusion during the re-evaluation process.
