The Karnataka government on Thursday issued the official notification allocating portfolios to members of the newly constituted Cabinet headed by Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. The development comes a day after Shivakumar took oath as Chief Minister following the resignation of Siddaramaiah on May 28, formalising a pre-agreed power-sharing arrangement within the Congress and bringing an end to months of speculation over the state’s leadership transition.

According to the notification issued by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Shivakumar will retain the Finance, Cabinet Affairs, Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), and Intelligence portfolios, along with all unallocated departments.
Congress leader Priyank Kharge, son of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, has been entrusted with the Home Department, along with Information Technology & Biotechnology and E-Governance.
13 legislators were sworn in as ministers in the Shivakumar-led Cabinet on Wednesday. The Cabinet is expected to be expanded in the coming weeks, with the sanctioned strength of the Karnataka Council of Ministers set at 34, including the Chief Minister.
Shivakumar, a senior Congress leader and prominent Vokkaliga figure who previously served as deputy to former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, was sworn in as the 25th Chief Minister of Karnataka at a low-key ceremony at Lok Bhavan.
