A 34-year-old man was taken into custody in Delhi on Monday after local residents brought him to police in connection with a complaint of sexual assault involving a six-year-old girl, police said.
The incident was reported around 6.30 pm at Shidipura Police Post under Deshbandhu Gupta Road Police Station in Central Delhi.
According to police, members of the public reached the police post along with the minor girl and her family members. They also brought the accused, identified as Ankit, a resident of Kishanganj in Delhi.

Local residents told police that they had caught the man in the Kishanganj area while he was committing sexual assault against the minor. They subsequently brought him to the police post and demanded appropriate legal action.
MINOR TAKEN FOR MEDICAL EXAMINATION
Police immediately took the six-year-old victim, identified only as “T” to protect her identity, for a medical examination.
The accused has been taken into custody and police teams are inspecting the location as part of the preliminary investigation.
Police said a case is being registered under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Investigators are also expected to record statements of the minor’s family members and other people who brought the accused to the police post. Further details regarding the circumstances of the incident are awaited.
Police are examining the available evidence and conducting further investigation into the matter.
