A ghost hunter has revealed the truth behind hauntings in Hollywood horror movies.

Paranormal investigator Colin Browen – who hosts the Murder In America podcast and The Paranormal Files on YouTube – has spent more than a decade investigating spooky situations and he’s adamant a lot of the “cheesy” scenarios seen on the big screen are actually very realistic.

During an appearance on ARC Maine, Colin explained: “Let me tell you – it’s very cheesy and it’s very Hollywood to hear stories of cold breezes and your hair standing on end but that’s true.

“All that stuff does happen. Those things usually happen before something really big happens, like a noise or something moving.”

It comes after Colin previously blamed Hollywood horror movies for giving ghosts a bad reputation – insisting not all spooks are “evil” as he’s encountered plenty of “happy, jovial spirits” who just wanted to have a bit of a “laugh”.

He told the US Mirror: “I’ve investigated dozens of homes and places that were filled with happy, jovial spirits – in fact, one night, we spent the entire night telling jokes to the spirits and watched as they played with our devices and seemingly laughed along with us.”

Colin insisted most people think of hauntings as frightening because of Hollywood horror movies and documentaries which usually offer a negative perception of spooky situations, adding: “In horror movies and documentaries about the paranormal world, usually hauntings are portrayed as intense, frightening and disturbing; however, in real life, it’s never black and white.

“Although it’s possible you may run into something more on the negative side, and you may not be dealing with Casper, most of the time, the spirits we encounter and interact with seem to be lost souls, in a way – not angry, demonic beings intent on raising hell – simply energies and spiritual entities that we don’t really understand.”

Colin went on to insist most ghosts aren’t interested in hurting humans and often they just want acknowledgement or help.

He added: “[Often they want] be acknowledged … [or] helped with a task or given some form of respect.”
