A giant screen in the middle of Times Square recently carried the face of a woman from India’s Panchkula. She wasn’t a celebrity, politician or business leader; she was a mother being honoured by her son for the countless sacrifices that helped him reach Google.
Abhijay Arora Vuyyuru, an Indian techie now working at Google in the United States, has touched hearts online after sharing a video of a surprise tribute for his mother. Instead of flowers or a gift, he chose one of the world’s most famous advertising spaces; a giant billboard in New York’s Times Square.

The emotional video shows Abhijay calling his mother and asking her to look at the screen. Moments later, her photograph appears on the towering billboard. Watching from miles away, she breaks into a smile as she realises the tribute is dedicated to her.
Sharing the video online, Abhijay explained that the gesture was his way of thanking the woman who raised him as a single parent and quietly put his dreams ahead of her own.
“We come from humble beginnings,” he wrote. Recalling his childhood in Panchkula, he said his mother worked tirelessly to ensure he had access to good schools even though she herself had studied using second-hand books.
The post also traces a journey marked by setbacks and perseverance. Abhijay remembered failing the IIT entrance examination in 2012 and seeing his mother cry. “That was when I told her one day, time will change. One day I would make her proud,” he wrote.
The years that followed were far from easy. He graduated in 2016 without a job, spent years preparing for the GMAT, took the exam three times, and faced rejection from every American business school he applied to in 2021.
“Consultants said give up on the American dream. I didn’t,” he wrote.
The turning point came in 2022 when he secured admission to Harvard. Three years later, another milestone followed when Google offered him a role in the United States.

For Abhijay, however, the billboard was never about professional success. It was about gratitude.
“Let this video be a reminder to never give up, and be grateful to those who allowed you to pursue your dreams by sacrificing theirs,” he wrote.
The video has since resonated with thousands online, many calling it a fitting tribute to a mother’s unwavering faith and years of sacrifice.
