The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has declared the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) 2026 results on Saturday, with Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil announcing the outcome. This year’s results have triggered discussion in academic circles as state board students have significantly outperformed CBSE students across major streams.

In engineering, only one CBSE student found a place in the top 10 this year, marking a sharp contrast to last year, when CBSE students had a strong presence in the merit list. Overall, 79 of the top rankers are from the Karnataka state board, 19 from CBSE, and one from the Telangana state board.

STATE BOARD DOMINATES TOP RANKS

The dominance of state board students is even more visible in other disciplines. In veterinary sciences, yoga and naturopathy, and nursing, eight out of the top 10 rank holders are from the state board. In agriculture, all the top 10 positions have been secured by state board students. In B Pharm and Pharm D courses, CBSE students managed to secure three positions in the top 10.

Bengaluru continued to dominate the merit list across streams. In engineering, the top three rank holders: Tanisha Karthik (Rank 1), Srajan B S (Rank 2), and Ninaad Vasisht (Rank 3), are all from reputed PU colleges in the city. Overall, six of the top 10 engineering rankers are from Bengaluru, with similar trends visible in agriculture and other courses.

As per the information, differences in evaluation practices may have influenced the results. For state board students, marks from both II PU–1 and II PU–2 exams were considered. However, due to discrepancies in the CBSE results, thousands of students have applied for the re-evaluation process. However, as per the information, re-evaluated marks are not taken into account, as KEA does not include post-revaluation scores in its admission process.

This year’s CBSE Class 12 results have also been surrounded by controversy, including concerns over marking inconsistencies and administrative errors. The overall pass percentage dropped to 85.20% in 2025, compared to 88.39% last year, adding to the ongoing debate around evaluation patterns.

The broader CBSE examination cycle has been under scrutiny this year, with over 17 lakh students impacted by reported issues in result processing and answer sheet handling. The re-evaluation portal, opened on June 1, will close today, June 7, 2026.

KCET COUNSELLING

Meanwhile, KCET counselling is set to begin from June 10, with open entry for four days. Seat allotment for medical, dental, Ayurveda, homoeopathy, unani, and other courses will be based on UGNEET 2026 scores. After NEET results are declared and the MCC counselling schedule is released, separate counselling rounds will be conducted for medical admissions.

With shifting performance trends and ongoing debate over evaluation systems, this year’s KCET results have become part of a larger conversation around fairness and standardisation in competitive examinations.
