The final stage of a $307.9 million expansion of Joondalup Health Campus is officially complete, with 60 new medical and surgical beds now open for public use.
The new beds are part of two wards built over two levels of the new six-storey public ward block, which also includes a further 46 public beds, featuring a 16-bed cardiac care unit and a 30-bed medical and surgical ward.
The first of the new beds opened on Tuesday May 19, with the rest coming online on Monday May 25.
They will be used by a mix of medical and surgical patients.
The hospital’s expansion began in 2021 and has brought more emergency department beds, new inpatient beds for medical, surgical, mental health and cardiac patients, and a new operating theatre.
It has also delivered two interventional catheterisation laboratories, expanded pre and post-operative facilities, a new discharge lounge, additional parking, and expanded supporting facilities.
The State and Federal governments jointly funded the project in partnership with Ramsay Health Care, which operates the hospital, with the State contributing $149.9 million and the Federal Government $158m.
Joondalup MLA Emily Hamilton said the latest addition of 60 beds to complete the expansion was a major boost for Perth’s growing northern suburbs and beyond.
“The two new wards at Joondalup Health Campus will not only benefit the residents of Perth’s growing communities in the northern suburbs, but also the wider community going into winter,” Ms Hamilton said.
“As well as additional hospital beds, this expansion will also create new jobs for healthcare workers in the northern suburbs.”

In 2025, Joondalup Health Campus recorded approximately 72,700 public patient admissions. The hospital now has around 600 public beds.
Combined with a $166 million expansion of the private side of the health campus, which opened in February 2026 and was funded by Ramsay, the hospital is now one of the largest health campuses in Australia.
WA Ramsay Health Care operations manager Dr James Cafaro said the project was completed on budget and ahead of schedule, and marked the end of the current expansion works, although some parking upgrades remained ongoing.

“Ramsay is committed to ensuring it is well placed to care for the Joondalup Health Campus community, and this expansion has greatly increased capacity for those living in our northern suburbs,” Dr Cafaro said.
“Ramsay is currently expanding staff car parking, which is due for completion in September, and Perth Radiological Clinic is expanding its facility on-site to provide care to our patients.”
