Malayalam superstar Mammootty is all set to make a striking return to Tamil cinema as Burma Karthikeyan in Dhanush-led Om – Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood. On his 75th birthday, the makers unveiled a character reveal video introducing the veteran actor as a smuggler with a powerful reputation among both the locals and the police.
The teaser presents Mammootty in a rugged, mass avatar as Burma Karthikeyan, known as Siya or The Elder One. Far from being portrayed as a conventional smuggler, the character is shown as someone who looks out for the people around him, earning their respect as well as that of the cops.

Mammootty’s grey-shaded Siya gets a mass introduction
The character reveal hints that there is more to Burma Karthikeyan than his imposing presence. In his own words, Siya describes himself as gold with small traces of copper mixed in, suggesting that the character will come with shades of grey.
The massy teaser gives a glimpse of Mammootty commanding the screen in the role, while keeping much of his character’s story under wraps. The reveal has also heightened curiosity around the actor’s collaboration with Dhanush in the upcoming action thriller.
Om – Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood is written and directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, who last helmed Amaran. Dhanush plays the lead role in the film.
