Actor Manoj Bajpayee may now be closely identified with The Family Man, playing a secret intelligence officer balancing work and family life, but filmmaker Raj Nidimoru has revealed that he was not the original choice for the project. According to Nidimoru, one half of the filmmaker duo Raj and DK, the story was first developed with Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi in mind. Yes, you read that right!

Nidimoru said the project was initially planned as a feature film before taking a different shape. Speaking to IdleBrain, he said, “Chiranjeevi was our first choice for The Family Man. We initially wrote the story with him in mind and planned to make it a feature film. However, for various reasons, the project later evolved into a web series.”
The Family Man went on to become one of the most popular OTT franchises, with its first season releasing in 2019. The franchise later expanded further, with additions to its universe including Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Jaideep Ahlawat and Nimrat Kaur.
The shift from a film to a web series also reflected a larger change in Indian entertainment at the time. When Raj and DK first conceived the project, OTT had not yet become a major force for Indian audiences. By the time the show premiered in 2019, the longer series format gave the story more room to grow than a two-hour film would have.
On the professional front, Nidimoru said The Family Man Season 3 cliffhanger was part of a larger plan. “We have a bigger plan in mind and this was like a pause at the midpoint,” he said.
He also said that writing for Season 4 is already underway, with the creators hinting at a shorter turnaround this time.
