The character posters of Batwara 1947 have been unveiled after releasing its motion poster, introducing the principal cast and setting up the story’s central theme of courage in a world torn apart.

Backed by Aamir Khan Productions, the film is set against the backdrop of the 1947 India-Pakistan Partition, centring on people who lived through those turbulent times with determination and resilience. The newly released posters feature Shabana Azmi, Sunny Deol, Preity G Zinta, Karan Deol, Ali Fazal and Abhimanyu Singh. The cast reveal presents them through distinct looks and expressions, with the makers describing them as people who endured a period of upheaval and emerged as examples of courage.

Sharing the character’s posters on Instagram, Aamir Khan Productions wrote, “In a world torn apart, their story was a testament to courage. Meet the people who lived through it all Batwara 1947, in theatres from 14th August (sic).” The posters follow the earlier motion poster and take the film’s promotional campaign further into its world. The film was previously titled, Lahore 1947.

Batwara 1947 is directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi and marks his reunion with Sunny Deol after nearly three decades. The actor-director duo have worked together in Ghayal (1990), Damini (1993) and Ghatak (1996).

Batwara 1947 is produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions. This is the first time Sunny has collaborated with Aamir for a film produced by his production company. Preity Zinta, who plays key role in the upcoming film, featured opposite Aamir in Farhan Akhtar’s directorial debut, Dil Chahta Hai.

The music for the film has been composed by A R Rahman, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar.

Batwara 1947 is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on Partition Day, August 14, 2026.
