Four students of a Sanskrit school died after inhaling poisonous gas while they entered a 12-foot-deep water tank for cleaning in UP’s Mathura, officials said. One student was rescued and admitted to a hospital for treatment.
The incident took place near Chaitanya Vihar in the Vrindavan area. According to officials, the five students, who were associated with Maharishi Gurukul Sanskrit Vidyalaya, had entered the tank after a foul smell was noticed inside it.

Officials suspect that poisonous gas accumulated inside the tank, causing four students to lose consciousness and die. One student was rescued and rushed to a hospital.
The incident triggered panic in the area, with district administration officials reaching the spot after being informed.
Mathura District Magistrate CP Singh said the students had entered the 12-foot-deep water tank, apparently after noticing a bad smell, and that four of them died, possibly due to poisonous gas.
Singh described the incident as a tragic accident and said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had taken cognisance of the incident and expressed grief. He added that all possible assistance would be provided to the affected families.
