NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule on Thursday urged the Centre to intervene and secure the safe return of two men from Maharashtra who were lured to Thailand with job offers and forcibly taken to Myanmar, where they remain captive.

In a public appeal on X on Thursday, Sule identified the two men as Muntazim Kazi and Labib Khan and called on External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, the MEA and the Indian missions in Myanmar and Thailand to step in and facilitate their rescue, citing their parents’ account of how they were taken abroad.

“According to their parents, they were lured to Thailand with job offers and forcibly taken to Myanmar, where they remain captive,” Sule said, seeking assistance to secure their return and ensure their families receive regular updates.

The Indian Embassy in Myanmar responded to her post, confirming that it had sent requests to the Myanmar authorities for the rescue and repatriation of the two men.

“Mission has sent requests for rescue and repatriation of the two entrapped individuals mentioned in the case, to concerned Myanmar authorities. We are following up,” the embassy said.

The embassy also highlighted the scale of the problem, stating that more than 2,525 Indians had been rescued or released and repatriated from scam centres in Myawaddy since July 2022.

The embassy urged people to exercise caution before accepting overseas job offers, reiterating its advisory against such offers without consulting the respective Indian missions.

It also shared its emergency helpline, +95 95419602, and email address, cons.yangon@mea.gov.in, for further updates on the case.
