Hyderabad: Telangana Congress leader B Mahesh Kumar Goud demanded on Tuesday, August 18 that the Election Commission eliminate the requirement for voters to link themselves to the electoral rolls from 2002. He expressed concern that 92 million voters in the state were receiving notices during the continuous SIR.
As many as 73 million names are missing from Telangana’s review electoral rolls due to be released on August 17, while another 92 million electors will receive notices over irregularities or failure to establish a connection with the rolls from 2002 during the ongoing SIR.
Goud claimed that the weak no longer have the ability to produce the necessary paperwork, thereby denying them the right to vote.
He claimed that the poor cannot link their names to the 2002 voter lists because the 2002 electoral rolls serve as a baseline for the current Special Intensive Revision ( SIR ).
Goud believes that all members should have the right to vote, regardless of where they are linked.
He claimed that all Indian citizens should be able to cast ballots right away after conducting an investigation, irrespective of whether or not their votes are related to the rolls from 2002.
