In a major security operation ahead of Independence Day, the Special Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Rajasthan has arrested two men from Tonk district over their alleged links with the banned terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
The two accused, identified as Basit and Burhan, were detained in separate operations carried out over two days. Following their arrest, both were handed over to the Rajasthan Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for further investigation and interrogation.

According to officials, Basit was picked up from the Dhannatalai area under the jurisdiction of Kotwali police station in Tonk. Family members said a team of plainclothes personnel arrived at their residence and detained him while his father, who runs a local dhaba in the area, was away.
After Basit’s detention, the CID conducted a search at his residence. According to his family, officials seized several items, including ATM cards, bank passbooks and parts of an electric scooter, as part of the search operation.
However, authorities have not yet disclosed the relevance of the seized materials to the investigation.
BOTH HAD LINKS TO JAISH-E-MOHAMMED: SOURCES
The second accused, Burhan, was arrested from Tonk on Saturday as part of the ongoing operation. Security agencies suspect that both men had links with the banned Pakistan-based terror organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed, though officials are yet to reveal further details regarding the nature of the alleged association.
Both accused have since been handed over to the Rajasthan ATS, which is expected to question them to determine the extent of their alleged involvement and whether they had any operational or logistical role linked to the terror outfit.
The operation comes just days before Independence Day, a period during which security agencies across the country typically remain on heightened alert to counter potential threats. Intelligence and anti-terror agencies have intensified surveillance and preventive operations in several states as part of the annual security drill.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement detailing the evidence against the two accused. The investigation is ongoing, and officials are expected to examine their communication records, financial transactions and other digital evidence as part of the probe.
